Monthly Photo Challenge
APG will not have the challenge for this November meeting. The challenge will resume with the February 2020 meeting.
Instead, please send photos for discussion about using manual mode – either photos where you successfully used manual mode, or photos you have questions about how manual mode may have improved them. The goal is for attendees to expand their knowledge so send either or both types.
Send your photos via email to athenspg@gmail.com no later than noon on the meeting day (Wednesday, November 21st). You can also bring your photos at the time of the meeting on a thumb drive but please come early to the social and find an officer with a name tag to have them added to the mix.
What we ask:
- Limit your photos to 1 or 2 images. This is to help us get all photos shown. Any category is appropriate and welcome.
- Label your photo files with your name, title, and month in the file name. As an example: Martin Bozone_NC Waterfall_November.jpg.
- Include any pertinent information: questions, successes, settings, setup, etc. Please include this information within the body of your email.
- Send JPG files with a quality setting of 10, and a file dimension of no more than 1600 pixels on the longest side.
Ask Me

Beginners or veterans, come one, come all! Do you have a photography question, maybe one you’re too shy to ask in front of the group? Or you’re stuck with a question and have no idea who might know the right answer? Our own, dedicated “Ask Me!” person will be on duty during the SOCIAL TIME, 6:30 – 7:00pm. If he or she doesn’t know the answer, they’ll find somebody who does. Just look for the person wearing the “Questions? Ask Me!” hat.
Stay Up to Date with APG
- Dues are due if you have not paid for 2019. Dues are now only $10 for 2019 but will change to $20 in 2020. If you wish to join APG then please bring cash or check to the meeting. You must fill out a new form and remember to sign the middle section of that form.

Using Manual Mode – A Group Discussion
November 21st, 7:00-8:30 pm
APG Social 6:30 pm
The Lyndon House – 211 Hoyt St., Athens, GA 30601

Manual mode on a camera allows photographers to determine the exposure of an image by letting them select an ISO value, an aperture value, and a shutter speed value. By selecting these values, you have ultimate control over the look of the photo, but you must have an understanding of how ISO, shutter speed, and aperture affect your photograph.
This is the goal of this month’s APG meeting – to give a basic understanding of exposure and how you can change the look of photos with manual mode settings. We will have a presentation and group discussion on manual mode that will be for the novice as well as seasoned photographers.
The APG president, Martin Bozone, will give the presentation and facilitate the group discussion on the following topics:
- Reasons to shoot manual mode• Understanding the exposure triangle
- What you can achieve with certain ISO, aperture, and shutter speed values
- Baseline settings for shooting different situations and techniques
- Issues, questions or achievements with photos sent in by members
- If you want to find new and exciting ways to improve your photograph, you don’t want to miss this APG meeting
Please send photos for discussion about using manual mode – either photos where you successfully used manual mode, or photos you have questions about how manual mode may have improved them.
