Upcoming Contests and Notifications

  • April 2017 we will be having a show at the Oconee County Library. A separate email will go out regarding that show and how to get into it. Please follow all naming and instructions carefully. Contact us if there is any confusion.
  • Lyndon House Lounge Gallery
    There are some interesting photos in the Lounge Gallery based on spinning the camera. This is the outside wall gallery. Go to the kitchen and look right. Wilma, the photographer, will be giving a talk on April 20th at 6 pm.
  • Lyndon House Juried Show Opening Reception: Mar. 23, 6:00–8:00 pm :: All are invited.
    Every Thursday in April at 6:30 pm there will be a gallery talk by one or more of the artists in the show. I went to one of these last year and it was quite interesting to hear the story behind the image.

  • April 2017 we will be having a show at the Oconee County Library. Start thinking about what you would like to show now. Depending on the number of paid members submitting work, we will be able to show 1-2 pieces each.
  • OCAF Juried Arts Show Call for Entries
    This draws works from all over the U.S. The deadline to submit an application for the SOUTHWORKS Juried Exhibit is Friday, February 17 – digital files submitted for review, not physical pieces like the Lyndon House Show. Deadline for receipt of accepted work: March 18 at 4 PM. Exhibit Dates: APRIL 7 – MAY 5, 2017. ELIGIBILITY: Open to all United States residents/artists 18 years or older.
  • Showcase School of Photography (Atlanta) reception and photo exhibit for Teri Darnell on February 3rd: Crossing Cheshire Bridge.
  • Let’s keep on shooting Atlanta! Even though The Showcase School is closing, photography classes and workshops will be offered in the same location under the direction of long-time instructor, Sara Keith. The new school is called Atlanta School of Photography! Classes will be posted on the new website at atlantaschoolofphotography.com within the coming weeks. Please go online and opt in to the mailing list now to be the first to register. You might even recognize some of the instructors!

Special January Notice!
  • This Thursday, January 12 from 10am-4pm, KEH Camera will be having a buyback/ sales event at UGA.  They are looking for any old equipment you might have that you want to sell and get money to buy new (to you) equipment from them!! 

    You will get 10% off any purchases you make at this event and 5% more on any equipment they buy from you. Bring anything you have!  You never know what it is worth to someone else!!

  • 2017 Eatonton-Putnam Arts Foundation 8th Annual Photography Contest & Exhibition. Entry fees benefit the Eatonton-Putnam Arts Foundation. All info can be found here. Images will be accepted from Jan 20 – Jan 27, 2017 and can be mailed in. APG members have won top prize in three of the last four years so let’s keep up the good showing.
    DIVISIONS:
    Amateur: Photography is strictly a hobby. Photographers use basic to advanced cameras or image editing software. They do not earn any income from photography based activities. These photographers have not won more than 3 ribbons (1st-4th place) in the 2016 Plaza Arts Center Photo Contest or Best in Show Award in any Plaza Arts Center Photo Contests. Amateurs may enter in the Advanced Division if they choose to.
    Advanced:  Photographers have had additional experience beyond basic amateur photography. They may earn some income from the sale or publication of images and other photography related activities. They may have won a Best in Show Award in any Plaza Arts Center Photo Contests or 4 or more ribbons in the 2016 Plaza Arts Center Photo Contest.
    Junior: Photographers are under 18 years of age at photo submission time. They may enter any photo with no regard to categories. See entry fee information under Entry Instructions.
    Entry: Entries will be accepted Jan 21 – Jan 27. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JAN 27.  Allow plenty of time for mailed entries to arrive before the deadline or they will not be accepted.
    AWARDS:
    Category Ribbons – Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners in each category.
    Best in Show Awards – Best in Show Awards will be presented to Amateur and Advanced Photographers and each will receive ribbons and cash prizes.
    Best in Show Awards:
    Best in Show – $150 cash award and ribbon
    2nd in Show  -$125 cash award and ribbon
    3rd in Show –  $100 cash award and ribbon
  • 42nd Juried Exhibition at the Lyndon House. Drop off is Jan. 26, 12:30–8:30 pm and Jan. 27, 10 am–4 pm. More info here.
  • Fine Art Photography Exhibit “Artistic Reality” at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, presented by Booth Photography Guild and featuring 18 artists. Opening Reception Saturday January 11, 6:00-8:00pm

  • Thomas Struth Exhibit: An exhibit of photographs by German photographer Thomas Struth will be on display at the High Museum in Atlanta until January 8. Struth is celebrated for his innovations in large-scale color photography. /Nature & Politics/ combines Struth’s varied interests—including cityscapes, architecture, portraits, landscapes, and museums—to focus on technology and the manufactured landscape as overarching subjects. B&W prints from influential 1960’s and 70’s photographers Arbus, Avedon, and Winogrand are also on display. More information here.

Upcoming Contests and Notifications
  • APG December Meeting will be our yearly potluck dinner and BBQ. APG buys the BBQ and drinks. 2016 Paid members (plus their guest) bring a side dish or dessert and three images on a thumb drive that will be put on a looped show. More info at the November meeting.
